Obituary

Bennie Singleton, Jr. was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on December 9, 1950, to the union of Bennie F. Singleton, Sr. and Eliza B. Singleton. Bennie was the oldest of 11 children born to Bennie and Eliza. As a boy, Bennie attended Greater True Love Missionary Baptist Church along with his family members. He was a devout son and brother and often talked about growing up in Baton Rouge, learning skills from his parents. Bennie attended Scotlandville Junior High and graduated from Scotlandville Senior High (class of 1968). He graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in 1973. After graduation, Bennie accepted a job in Kansas City, Missouri with the Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Defense, moved to Kansas City and remained in the area until his death. Bennie married Regina Barger on March 14, 1998. They were married for 20 years and he assisted her in raising her two children, Michael and Christopher, as well as Regina's nieces, Alexis and Catherine. Bennie was an extremely positive male role model for all four of them. Bennie retired from the Corps of Engineers in 2004 after being employed for 31 years. Following retirement, Bennie began full-time employment with CarMax and part-time employment at J.C. Penny's. He left these employers due to his health after 12 years. He was also a professional photographer in the Kansas City area. He took great pride in his work and had a strong work ethic of Dependability and accomplishment. Bennie leaves to mourn his wife, Regina Singleton; stepsons, Michael Barger and Christopher Barger-Cameron; grandson, Greyson Barger; nieces Alexis Ridley and Catherine B. Gorman; brother- in- Law, Alex Barger., Jr.; sister -in- law, Emma B. Ridley, all four of Kansas City; Gregory Barger of Tulsa, OK; four sister, Cynthia Veal (Richard), Debra Haywood, Lisa Singleton and Rosia Singleton of Baton Rouge; five brothers, Darryl Singleton (Phyllis) of St. Francisville, La., Larry Singleton (Leaner) of Fort Worth, TX., Gerald, Jeremy and Charles Singleton of Baton Rouge, La.; 21 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
