Obituary

Bessie Mae Smith, along time resident of the Baton Rouge/Morganza area, died Thursday the 6th of July at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Born in 1942 in LaCour, Louisiana, Bessie was loved by all who knew her. She was a gentle soul that had kind words for everyone without judgement. Sister Smith accepted Christ as her Savior with New Sunlight Baptist Church where she served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. Bessie Smith was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her family. In her leisure time, she enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on the usher board and gardening, Bessie also loved good food and socializing, enjoyed talking to family, friends, and neighbors and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Bessie Smith was truly blessed. She was born on January 2, 1942 and departed this life on July 6, 2017. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Eartha Smith, Father, Ellis Borown, beloved brothers, Dorson Young and Melvin Wayne Farlow and grandson, Travis Brown. She is survived by her children, Joyce Rogers, Alvin Brown, Valerie Brown, Anna Felder, Theresa Gibson, Dewayne Brown and seven grandchildren, Ron Brown, John Gibson III, Briana Brown, Brandon Gibson, Alana Felder, Merrissa Gibson and Cardell Felder III and six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, all of whom loved her and brought great joy to her last years.
