Daniel Jos Godoy, 69, proud former Marine Corps Sgt. and prolific playwright, died on February 16, 2021. His plays were inspired by his deep connection with his Catholic upbringing, his extensive reading, and his life experiences. His works, mostly one act plays, were staged in venues across his hometown of New Orleans, including Le Chat Noir, Le Petite Theatre, and Southern Rep.
He graduated from Hard Prep ('65), played football at Loyola Academy, Wilmette, IL, before transferring to and graduating from De La Salle High School in '69. He attended LSU, but withdrew to join the USMC for a 3-year tour during the Vietnam War, earning a National Defense Service Medal and a Meritorious Unit Citation. He later attended Loyola University (N.O.) where he met his mentor, Drama Professor Don Brady. Dan is survived by brother Alfonso Godoy (Rancy Boyd-Snee), sister Yvonne Godoy-Ramos, niece Vanessa Alimiana Francingues (Wayne Francingues, Jr.) great niece, Alexandra Catherine Francingues and the many friends at Catholic-Presbyterian Apartments and the Spanish Town Market. May his memory be eternal.
