Derrick Wendell Wright was born on June 20, 1966 to the late Herman (Sonny) Wright, Jr. and Ruby (Williams) Wright in New Orleans, Louisiana. Derrick was called home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2021. As a young child, Derrick was full of fun and laughter. He was the eldest of four and the only son. He was given the nickname Lil Professor by his Godfather, Mack Arthur Williams. His favorite pastime was reading and archery. Derrick accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and as a teenager, became a minister of the gospel. Derrick graduated from East Ascension High School where he played drums in the high school band and participated in Track & Field. He took courses at LSU, then moved to Texas to attend DeVry Institute of Technology. He also completed training in the Microsoft Certified Software Developer Program at Southern Methodist University. Derrick worked for several companies including Home Depot, BancTec, and DFW Airport, and had an entrepreneurial spirit which motivated him to pursue several business ventures including WrightWay Web Design, Show Car Shine, Easy Street Candies, and Wright Delights. In 1992, Derrick married the love of his life, his rock, Abigail Lollis. God allowed them the gift of being parents to four beautiful and amazing children: Aubreana, Ambrea, Daniel and Aria, and they were blessed to live in Dallas, TX, Geismar, LA and most recently Charlotte, NC. Derrick was a "Jack of all trades" so there was little that he did not know, and he was always willing to share his knowledge with others. In his leisure, Derrick enjoyed studying the Word, following the stock market, making pecan candy, gardening, watching movies and traveling with his family. Derrick had a positive influence on many lives and will truly be missed by his family and friends. He will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 28 years, Abigail (Lollis)Wright; son, Daniel Alvin Wright; daughters, Aubreana Dayastey Wright, Ambrea Dalisha Wright, and Aria Danielle Wright; mother, Ruby (Charles) Wilson-Azoney; sisters; Sherrick (Alexander) Mayweather-Ebo, Wendy (Derick) Edwards, and Cindy L.
