Our beloved,Dorothy Lemar Matthews , affectionately called,Myme, 73 years young was called home to be with our Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. A Guardian Angel to many, Dorothy appeared on this earth on May 17, 1944, born to the union of the late
Leaster Shallowhorn and Joseph Lemar, Sr. She was a native of New Orleans, LA. and a long-time
resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Dorothy was married to the late Albert Matthews, Jr., and through
this union, they were blessed with three children.
Dorothy was baptized at an early age; having attended James Chapel Baptist Church in New
Orleans, LA, New Light Baptist Church, Grosse Tete, LA, and was a current and faithful member
of Promise Land Baptist Church. She was a 1963 graduate of Thomas A. Levy School, Rosedale,
LA. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family & friends, had a great passion for cooking,
and loved collecting figurines items especially ducks and roosters.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her precious memories: three children; Andrea Broumfield, Baytown,
TX; Gloria Matthews, Atlanta, GA; and Everette Matthews, Baton Rouge, LA, five grandchildren;
Deja Brumfield, Aleja Brumfield, Reginald Ahmad Robertson, Jr.; Zakhi Alexander Foster, and
Lucianah Nakori Foster, great-grandson, Bryson Sullivan, a brother, Charlie Lemar, Ontario, CA;
a devoted son-in-law; Lamont Brumfield, Baytown, TX and a god-son; Keith Gosserand; a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Awaiting Dorothy at the pearly gates were her husband, Albert Matthews, Jr., children; Lisa
Matthews and Albert Matthews II, parents, Leaster andJoseph Lemar, Sr.; two brother,Joe Lewis
and Joseph Lemar,Jr.; Twin sisters, Katherine and Jeanie Lemar.
