Douglas Joyner, 60, departed this life on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Our Lady of Lake in Baton Rouge, LA. He was born to Shelly and Carrie Joyner in Portsmouth, Virginia, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Veida Joyner; his two children, Frank (Amanda) Joyner and Nicole Joyner; seven grandchildren, Alayna, Reagan, Christian, Bailey, Sydney, Brandon and Cameron Joyner; three siblings, Carolyn (John) Smith, Joan (Donald) Stancil and Bruce (Evelyn) Joyner; eight nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Doug was a graduate of Shaw University, a retired Chemist with Vulcan Materials, a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and an avid volunteer dedicated to improving the lives of children in his community, including his devoted assistance to the students and staff of Greenbriar Elementary. Viewing will be held at St. George Catholic Church from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, with funeral services officiated by Father Mike Schatzle immediately following. Doug will then be laid to rest at Winnfield Memorial Park, with arrangements provided by Winnfield Funeral Home.
