Mrs. Edith Parfaite Johnson passed away peacefully on the evening of July 18, 2021 at the age of 84. Edith was born on July 3, 1937 in Houma, Louisiana. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in New Orleans and Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge. Edith taught at Southern University and A&M University in Baton Rouge, Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia and retired from the Rochester City School District in Rochester, New York. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Edith devoted her life to caring for others. She will be missed by family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Isabel Carter Smith and McKinley Parfaite, Sr. and her three sisters, Marion Parfaite, Dorothy (Richard) Maryland and Diana (Louis) Smith-Lagarde. Survived by her husband, Gerald Johnson, children, Nichole Johnson and Gerald Jerome (Amanda) Johnson, grandchildren, Dene Johnson and Gawain Johnson, sisters, Delores (Dalton) Williams, Gloria (David) Huddleston and Zulah (Edward) Smith, brother, McKinley (Anne) Parfaite, Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews. Private interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans. Winnfield Funeral Home of Baton Rouge is in charge of arrangements.
