Ester Lee Spears Roan, a native of Clinton, Louisiana was born on July 26, 1929 in Nesom Louisiana to the late John Howard and Emma T. Spears. She was joined in holy matrimony on July 24, 1949 to the late Albert Roan. To that union was born ten children. Ester and Albert were married 47 years before he departed this earth.
Ester loved the Lord! She accepted him as Lord and Savior in 1941 and was baptized by the late Elder Robins at St. John Baptist Church. Ester joined Beechgrove Baptist Church in 1961 where she was a faithful and active member until her health declined. She served on the Deaconess Board, Golden Age and Sisterhood Ministries. Ester received the Mother of the Year as well as other awards
while attending Beechgrove Baptist Church. She was also honored during a This is Your Life Program.
Ester graduated from Clinton High School. She also attended Cosmetology school and received her Nurses Aide certification from James M. Frasier Vocational Technology School. Ester was a homemaker most of her married life. She worked as a Commissioner at the voting polls and as private caregiver at The Guest House Nursing Facility. Ester also provided in home childcare services for many children. She had a big heart with open arms. She provided shelter and meals to so many family members and others.
To continue her legacy and cherish her memories she leaves: Four sons and three daughters-in-law, Maurice A. Roan, James (Patricia) Roan, Darrel K. Roan, Howard (Abilean) Roan, Lucille Roan all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Georgia (James) Comena of Ethel, Louisiana. Patricia L. R. McCaleb, Linda F. Roan, Jacqueline (Joseph) Roan-Lea, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Satin (Ronnald) Howard, of Indianapolis, Indiana. 42 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Three sisters and four brothers-in-law, Mary T. Stewart, Sarah S. Bell both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana Willie Mae (Joe Nathan) Moore of Zachary, Louisiana, Frank (Venetia) Gooden, Plater (Esther) Gooden of St. Francisville, Louisiana, Henry (Mamie) Gooden of Baker, Louisiana, two brothers and four sisters-in-law Howard (Patricia) Spears, Rev. Hebert (Charlene) Spears, Geraldine Spears all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ella Gilmore of Zachery, Louisiana, one Godchild, Clifford "Scooter" Stewart, one Godsister, LaBlanche Galmon and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Winford Roan, Sr., daughter-in-law, Jean C. Roan three grandchildren, Quincy Roan, DAndre T. Smith and Winford Roan, Jr., one great granddaughter, Arial Edwards, three brothers, Marion Spears, John Spears and an infant, three sisters, Elizabeth Spears, Iola Spears and Dorothy Ray, one Goddaughter, one Godson as well as other sisters and brothers-in-law.
