Blount was born to the union of the late Cornelius and Lureader Hughes in Amite County, Mississippi. She was one of the last of eight children (first child of twins). She was baptized at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Gillsburg, Mississippi. She married the late George W. Blount, Sr. and moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana a To this union were born seven children, however she was mom to many more. Eunice worked at the Louisiana School for the Blind for 23 years as a cook. After their original location closed, she was employed by Louisiana State University as a Cook Supervisor, where she remained until retirement. A few years after retirement she worked as a school crossing guard and a private sitter. She loved cooking, fishing and spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially the great grands. She spent may days outside watching the birds and the squirrels, making sure they had food. She was known as Sis to her sisters, brothers and cousins, but became the beloved Mama Dear after the birth of her first grandchild. Mama Dear still resonates to this day. All of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbors and family friends know of mama dear. To mourn her departure yet cherish her memories she leaves five children. Peggy Woods (Nugene), Luecreasie Brown-Hill, Zenolia Blount, Darlene Jackson, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Donald Blount (Clarett), Prarieville, Louisiana; one sister, Hettie Hamilton, Richmond, California; a longtime companion, Paul Mims, a brother from another mother, Kenneth Franklin, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband George W. Blount, Sr., two sons, George W. Blount, Jr. and Richard E. Blount; four sisters, Clytie Johnson, Eula Hughes, Eloise Lee, Cornelia Pitcher and two brothers, John T. and Eddie Lee Hughes.
