Flora was born on January 2, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of Chester and Aline (Augustus) Stevens. She was baptized at Elm Park Baptist Church at an early age and remained an active member until her illness. She served as Coordinator of the Young Adult Choir, taught Vacation Bible School, and served as a member of the Finance Committee as well as Educational Committee for numerous years.
Flora was educated in East Baton Rouge Parish and graduated from Capital High School and Southern University with a Masters in Special Education. She worked at the Catholic Life Center in her early years, then taught school for over 30 years at Mohican, St. Agnes and Lee High School – with a focus in Special Education.
She married the love of her life, Claude N. Jackson III on September 6, 1970 and their family was complete with three children: Jennifer, Claude IV "Sonny" and Shanda. She was a loving and nurturing mother who never ceased to care for her children and ensure they thrived in life. She was an active Cub Scouts Den Mother for Sonny and tirelessly enrolled and supported Jennifer and Shanda in piano and dance lessons and recitals. Flora and Claude were members of the Southern University Quarterback Club and traveled, tailgated and supported S.U. for many years. When Claude fell ill she retired and dedicated her life to care for him for many years. She then helped her mother take care of her father Chester until he passed. She was a dedicated and loving mother and grand-mother whose eyes weren't big enough to see her grand-children. She loved them all from the bottom of her heart – as she did her entire family.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her mother Aline Augustus Stevens; one son Claude Nathaniel Jackson IV (Rocel) of Richmond, TX; two daughters Jennifer Dartez (Dave) of Baton Rouge, LA and Shanda Terry (Michael) of Frederic, Maryland. One sister Debora Simms (Kenneth) of B.R.; two brothers: Chester Stevens (Wanda) of Hercules, CA and Kenneth (Tanya) of B.R. Nine grand-children: Claude V (Nate), Nicholas, Noah and Nigel of Richmond, TX. Braelyn and Jaedyn Collier of Baton Rouge. Lauren and David Terry of Frederic, MD. Seven nieces, four nephews, five great-nieces, 13 great-nephews and a God Son Markus Stevens.
She was preceded in death by her husband Claude N. Jackson II, father Chester Stevens, brother Sanford Stevens and sister-in-law Ruby Jackson.
