Frank Lee Newport, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA., passed away on June 10, 2023. Frank was born to Lucille Smith and Lee Edward Newport on July 11, 1926. The Newport family asks that you keep them in your prayers during this time.
Frank Lee Newport entered into eternal rest at The Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana on June 10, 2023. He was 96 years old, a native of Zachary and he was a lifelong Baton Rouge resident. Frank was kind, generous, and a hardworking husband and father. He was a Korean War Veteran and received a service medal for the 50th anniversary of the Korean War on June 25, 2000. After his military service, he worked for the United States Postal Service for 34 years and was a member of the The American Postal Workers Union (APWU). He is preceded in death by his wife Lorelda S Newport; father, Lee Edward Newport (Zachary, LA); mother, Lucille Smith Newport (Zachary, LA); sisters, Willie Mae Simmons, Josie Bell Nickerson, Juanita Johnson, Lou Emma Turner, Zula Newport (Zachary, LA), and Helen Sanford (Zachary, LA); and brothers, Robert Newport and Rev Ventress Newport (New Orleans, LA); and one grandchild, Aleshia Marie Major. He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Frank & Carolyn Newport, Paul & Sandra Newport (Katy, TX), and Bobby Lee Newport; one brother and sister-in-law, Rev Clament & Rosemary Newport; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Verna Landry, Jessie & Robert Allison, and May Francis & Walter Muse (Round Rock, TX); five grandchildren, Vanessa Newport, Paul Lee Newport Jr., Jasmine Major, Heather Goltz, and Sondra Honore; five great-grandchildren, Kevin Major, Cierra Knockum, Chris Honore, Mariella Goltz, and Evangeline Goltz, and two great-great-grandchildren, Mariah McDowell and Zander Major; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The viewing is 9 am on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (185 Eddie Robinson, Sr. Dr.) until religious services at 11 am. There will be no repass following the funeral services. To be interned in a mausoleum at Southern Memorial Gardens (3012 Blount Rd.). Serving as honorary pallbearers are Frank Lee Newport Jr., Paul Lee Newport, Bobby Lee Newport, Paul Lee Newport Jr., Rev. Clement Newport, and Ronald Sanford.
