Brother Gerald Lynn Avery, was born on January 28, 1958, to the union of the late Herman Sr. and Inez English Avery, in New Orleans, LA. The family later moved to Baton Rouge, LA , where Gerald was baptized by the late Rev. Clarence Bridgewater of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.
Brother Gerald L. Avery, was a graduate of Capital Senior High School, class of 1977. He excelled in both basketball and football and earned the named, #65, as his friends would call him. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the United States National Guard (Army). Later on, an unexpected injury occurred that ended his military career. However, he always remained a soldier at heart.
On June 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m., our beloved brother, Gerald L. Avery, stepped from time into eternity at Our Lady of the lake Hospital (Baton Rouge, LA )surrounded by loved ones. He leaves to cherish his memory: two brothers, Larry Avery and Patrick Avery of Baton Rouge, LA ; two sisters, Mamie Gooden (Henry) of Baker, LA and Karen Griffin (Frankie) of Baton Rouge, LA.
Waiting to welcome him at the pearly gates are his parents, Herman and Inez Avery; four brothers, Herman, Lester, John, and Bruce Avery; his maternal grandparents, Mamie Dillion and James Bernard English, and his paternal grandparents, Irene Scott Dillion and James Dillion.
Brother Gerald L. Avery, was born for God's purpose into a loving family, that he took pride in giving his time and support. He brought a sense of laughter and humor but most of all, he was a testimony. Gerald was planted as a seed in this family to show kind deeds to others. Most importantly, he was born to die and gave himself back to the Lord!!!
