A Life Well Lived

Girlean Slaughter Moore was born on Sunday, November 2, 1947, to the union of the late Herbert and Marie Slaughter, Jr., in Cottonport, Louisiana. Girlean was the 3rd born of sixteen children. On Thursday, May 15, 2025, her spirit peacefully returned to the Master, and she went home to be with her Lord & Savior at Rapides Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Sis. Moore attended Carver High School in Bunkie, Louisiana. After high school, she joined in holy matrimony and married Tilmon Moore on July 9, 1966. To this union, three beautiful and blessed children were born.

Sis. Moore accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Henry Louis at Morning Star Baptist Church in Cottonport, Louisiana. After marrying, she joined New Light Baptist Church in Evergreen, Louisiana, under the leadership of the late Rev. Calvin Lucas. Later in life, she transferred her membership to St. John Community Church-Baptist, under the leadership of Rev. Charles E. Guillory, where she sang with the St. John Voices of Praise, was a member of the women's ministry, hospitality committee, and the T.A.S.T.E. of St. John Meal Program. Sis. Moore remained an active member and a faithful worshiper until the time of her passing.

Sis. Moore retired from Gulf Coast Social Services, having devoted 20 years of dedicated service and hard work. After her retirement, she fulfilled her passion for caretaking and served as a private in-home sitter until her journey on Earth was complete. Girlean was loved by many, the sweetest person someone could ever meet. She had a loving and caring personality and was always willing to help anyone and everyone she could.

Sis. Moore leaves behind to cherish her precious memories and continue her legacy: one son, Ronald (Latesha) Moore; two daughters, Sharon (Thomas Veal) Simon and Connie (Randy) Lee; grandchildren, Tramone Simon, Lavondric (Melissa) Moore, Shareka (Marcus) Roque, Dereck (Lisa) Simon, Jalen Moore, Rontavious Moore, Rontrevon Serie, Anastaisia Elie, and Ashantae Wooden; great-grandchildren, McKinnley Moore, Londyn Moore, Bellamy Roque, Loftyn Roque, Sha'Rya Simon, Melanie Simon, Trevor Simon, Landen Simon, Trisian Simon, and Derriona Simon; three brothers: Warren (Linda) Slaughter, Lerry Slaughter, Christopher (Anetia) Slaughter; seven sisters: Joyce Slaughter, Lois (Shedrick) Dominique, Lurthie (Kenny) Leatherman, Ella Rice, Deborah (Larry) Ford, Helen Blackman, Amy (David) Vasquez; special friends: Irma Wright, Berniece Pierre, Mary Smith, and Gloria Augustine; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
