Hattie Beatrice entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 6, 2017, at her residence. She was born on May 20, 1938, to the late Leroy Davis Sr. and Rosa Lee Hayes in Clinton, Louisiana. In May 1968, she married the late Cephus Slaughter. There were no children to this union. Hattie worked with her mother to care for her children as well as her sisters and brothers. The mother and daughter team raised ten children together. They were awesome parents together. Hattie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Beech Grove Baptist Church in Clinton, Louisiana, at an early age. Later, as a young adult she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend David Newman. Hattie worked in the restaurant industry for over 60 years. She started at Griffon's on Perkins Road, serving plate lunches and hamburgers to patrons and helped open the original Gino's Restaurant in 1966. Hattie was Mama Marino's right hand ever since. Mama Marino personally taught her everything in the kitchen. Hattie used the techniques she learned from Mama Marino for more than 50 years. When asked about her work ethic, she said she never wanted to disappoint Mama and always tried her hardest to please her. She was an exceptionally dedicated, hardworking person. A true inspiration, she became a "second mother" to the younger generation of staff at Gino's. Hattie leaves to cherish her loving memories to her family: two daughters, Rose D. Williams and her spouse Weston of Harvey, Louisiana, and Tracie P. Davis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sons, Michael Ray and Leroy Davis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; four sisters, Mattie M. Mercelous, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Verna M. Coleman of Miami, Florida, Lizzie H. Hawkins and her spouse Michael of Baton Rouge, and Delores Davis of Detroit, Michigan; four brothers, Lionel Hayes Sr. and fiancée Sharon, Lawrence E. Bryant, Horace M. Hayes, and Clovers L. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, especially Connie Bradford and Woodrow Hayes, and friends Betty McFarland, Shirley Smith (her Bingo Friend), and Deborah Curry.
