Isaiah "Ike" Morrison, Sr. was born on September 11, 1936 to the late Andrew and Elizabeth Morrison, Sr. in Walker, LA. He was raised in Baton Rouge and there began his passion for music and service.
He graduated from Capitol Avenue High School in May of 1954. After attending Southern University at Baton Rouge, he left home to pursue studies in Piano and Theory and Composition at American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, IL.
His experience as pianist, organist and choir conductor at St. Mary Baptist Church in the late 1940s, along with his college major in music, prepared him for what would be his service to God and His people when he arrived in Chicago in 1949.
After a few years in Chicago he met his wife, and they were married February 7, 1960. They were baptized together and attended the Worldwide Church of God in Chicago under the leadership of Herbert W. Armstrong. Soon after, Isaiah became the pianist and was given the opportunity to start the church choir on the southside of Chicago, which became one of the largest congregational choirs in the WWCG during the 1960s.
He and his wife served the widows, poor and anyone in need in Chicago, as their family grew, and continued to do so after moving back home to Baton Rouge in 1972. He was ordained a deacon and served as choir director and congregation pianist for decades.
He was employed by Land and Land Printing in Baton Rouge until his retirement in 1993, which also gave him the opportunity to gift many specially cut, folded and binded cookbooks for many of the brethren of the congregation. At the time of his death, he was a member of Church of God- Faithful Flock under the leadership of Alton Billingsley, his loving pastor and friend.
Mr. Morrison died peacefully at home in Baton Rouge, surrounded by family on July 19, 2018 following a short battle with cancer. He was 81.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth S. Morrison; his 5 children, Brenda (Joe) Daniel, Sr., Isaac (Vicky) Morrison, Isaiah (Avis) Morrison, Jr., Diane (Eddie) Kornbacher, and Kenneth Morrison all of Baton Rouge, LA; 7 grandchildren, Joseph (Keisha) Daniel, Jr., Veronica (Ernest) Richard all of Baton Rouge, LA, Vanessa (Eric) Randall of New Iberia, LA, Marlin Daniel, Danisha (Kaffrey) Bailey, Edward Kornbacher and Elizabeth Hull all of Baton Rouge, LA; 10 great-grandchildren, Iliyah, Gerard, Jr., Gia, Ivan, Peter, Isaac, Amyrie, Amani, Alaiya and Karen all of Baton Rouge, LA; his brother, Benjamin W.
