James Monroe Dotson, affectionaly known as 'Jimmy D' and 'Cowboy' peacefully departed this life at Clarity Hospice on July 23, 2020 at the age of 77. James, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge was born August 23, 1942. James was a loving, caring, hardworking and kindhearted husband, father and friend. He was a graduate of McKinley Senior High School. After completing high school he went on to complete trade school to become an electrician. James worked at the local newspaper plant for 30+ years but he also had an entrepreneurial spirit and started Dotson Kleening Products, his own janitorial supply company, which he ran successfully for years.
James was also a talented musician who had a passion for country music. He loved to sing and played the guitar and in his spare time would put on his big Cowboy hat, belt buckle and boots and perform Charlie Prides 'Kiss an Angel Good Morning' and many other country songs.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loyal wife of 52 years, Lillie C. Dotson, daughter Jeretta D. Antoine, son-in-law Gregory J. Antoine, sisters Gwendolyn A. Dotson, and Vermar Hargrove, brothers McDaniel (Mary) Dotson and Arthur L. Dotson along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Eddie and Doretha Dotson, brother Edward Dotson sisters Lucille D. Francois, Dorothy Lawson, Dolly Mae Arbuckle, and his son Eric V. Dotson.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 8th at 1 pm. at Winnfield Funeral Home of Baton Rouge.
