John was born to union of Rita Bell Walker and the late Elmo Walker, Sr. in Milwaukee. he spent his early years there and then moved on to Baton Rouge where he graduated from Istrouma High School. he served a term in the Marin Corp then moved to San Francisco where he met and married Jeanette Smith. They have a son John Jr. He leaves his mother, sister Dianne Walker, and brothers Donald of Las Vegas, Alvin (wife Lenora), and Robert (wife Cynthia) of Baton Rouge and a lot of nieces and nephews relatives and friends.
