Julius Lee Wright, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, May 2, 2019 , at the age of 69, in Baton Rouge, LA.
Julius (Sonny) was born May 23, 1949 to the proud parents of Julius Lee Wright, Sr. and Sallie Mae (Webb) Wright, in Montgomery, AL. He would be the only brother to his three surviving sisters, Maria, Sheldia, and Patricia.
After graduating from St. Jude Catholic High School in 1968, Julius attended Alabama A & M University for one year, before enrolling in the United States Army. While attending St. Jude, he played football, was an avid lover of the sport since that time. His eight- year stint in the Army, included several stops, including a tour to Germany and Vietnam. As an only son, Julius was exempted from serving in Vietnam but volunteered to deploy, as he saw this as an opportunity to further serve his country. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1976. Upon his departure from the Army, he worked as a carpenter, mechanic, and a truck driver. In 2010, his health forced him to retire from Werner Trucking Company, where he traveled throughout the United States transporting a variety of cargo.
In 1972, Julius married Brenda Chambliss, and to that union, two children were born: Jillian Wright and Justin Wright.
Julius was a kind person who loved God and his family. In our adulthood, he began referring to his sisters and close cousin as "his girls".
He became very protective of us girls. After he was diagnosed with cancer several years ago, he spent time with each of us, telling us some things, but being careful to protect us from the intimate details of his illness.
At any given occasion, he could make the entire room laugh, his sense of humor was contagious. Julius was a selfless person, giving freely of himself and whatever resources he had, sometimes even to a fault. He enjoyed listening to soul music, watching western movies, drag racing and other sports, especially Alabama football. However, the thing that brought him the most joy was the time he spent with family.
Survivors include: children, Justin Wright (Detroit, MI) Jillian Wright (Miami, FL), five grandchildren: Betty Jean, Ian, Ryan, Tamara, and Elijah, three sisters, Maria Douglas (Fred)- Killeen,TX, Sheldia Fletcher (Donald)- Killeen,TX, and Patricia Wright-Tatum (James), Jefferson City, MO., a devoted cousin Pat Murry, Montgomery, AL, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
