Obituary

Obituary of Laura T. Johnson "To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here." – Jonathan Edwards Laura T. Johnson was born on February 27, 1931 in Jackson, Louisiana to the late Susie Valentine and Theodore Taylor. She slipped the surly bonds of earth on March 13, 2018 at 7:55a.m. at the Crossings Center. Sister Laura accepted Christ at an early age and began a lifelong commitment of over sixty years to Gloryland Baptist Church. She and her husband, Nathan, were founding congregants and Laura was one of the first members of the Senior Choir. Sister and Brother Johnson worked tirelessly to meet the spiritual and financial commitments of the church, specifically working to successfully retire the first mortgage. Laura loved her family, cooking, traveling, the Saints and above all, God Almighty. Her last words were, "I'm ready to go home", and heaven opened wide to receive her. On March 17, 1951, she married the love of her life, Nathan Johnson Jr., and to this union four children were born. Laura was preceded in death by her dear husband, Nathan, her mother, Susie, and her brother, Ernest. She leaves a tremendous and loving legacy through one son, Larry D. Johnson (Joycelyn) of McKinney, TX; three daughters, Sue Ann Johnson and Debbie J. Johnson, both of Baton Rouge, LA, and Sandra D. Johnson-Rhodes (Beverly) of Minneapolis, MN; one grandson, Spencer Williams, Jr.(Shirlena); five granddaughters, Rhonda Lynne, Tonya Nicole, Laurie Ann, Lisa and LaJarde; a brother, Tory Valentine (Merlyna); one living sister-in-law, Julia Moses, eleven grandchildren and her adopted family including the late Arthur and Mary King, her sisters, Betty and Edna and brothers, Arthur Jr, Richard, Ray, Robert, Alvin, Charles and Roy. She leaves behind special ones including her caregivers, Nancy Keller and Fedricka Keller-Netter, her faithful spiritual advisor, Dr. Linda Horn and a devoted friend, Alice Bowman. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning, or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." "No hour is ever eternity but has its right to weep."
