Sister Lovie Clipps Spears was born to the union of Ossie Clipps and Elizabeth Wallace Clipps. Born on February 3, 1922. She was a life-long resident of Baker, LA. Sister Lovie Clipps Spears departed this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 6:25 p.m. at her residence.
Sister Lovie Clipps Spears accepted Christ at the age of 11 and was baptized by Rev. Ball at Rock Zion Baptist Church, of Baker. One year later she joined Shady Grove First Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a member of the Usher Board and the John Clark Scholarship Committee.
On January 5, 1943 she married the late Thomas Lee Spears, and to this union of 48 years one son (Carl), and two daughters (Lois and Maxine) were born. She leaves a beautiful and memorable legacy of love, her outspoken word, generosity, sense of humor, legacy of justice, and wisdom to her three beloved children whom who she loved dearly. Her parental legacy is based on Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a Child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Sister Lovie Clipps Spears enjoyed beautiful flowers, and volunteer to help and support her family, neighbors and friends. She was a "Glamour Girl" and loved dressing up. Her hair, make up, and nails were always in order. She was always friendly, lively, and made lots of friends many she met traveling in her blue car.
She was a woman grounded in the Lord. She taught her children Bible scriptures, read stories and enrolled them in Vacation Bible School under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Lionel Lee at the Evening Star Baptist Church. She spent her free time reading the newspaper and other religious/inspirational books. She enjoyed reading her Bible and attending Sunday School and Bible Study Class. Rev. Lionel Lee affirmed her talents as an Historian, because of her gift for preserving records for the History of Baker and Shady Grove First Missionary Baptist Church. In February 22, 2009, she was the recipient of the "Anna Award," and was recognized as one of oldest member of Shady Grove on May 11, 2014.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Spears: her parents, Ossie and Elizabeth Clipps: three brothers; Clarence Clipps, Ossie Clipps, Alvin Clipps: three Sister-In-Laws, Ida Sue Clipps, Zerlee Clipps, Beulah Clipps: one daughter, Maxine Winston-Scruggs; Two Beloved Friends; Hazel Wells, and Ardelia Clark.
Sister Lovie Clipps Spears leaves to cherish her memory; two children, Carl Spears (Eddah); Lois Fay Le Duff (Randolph) of Baton Rouge, one Son-in-law, Howard Scruggs of Milwaukee, WI; one sister, Elizabeth Green; one brother, Jimmie Lee Clipps; two granddaughters; Avril D. and Carelle A. Spears all of Baton Rouge; one Adopted Grandson, Jared Odom (Valgenice) of Altanta, GA; seven Step-Grandchildren; Camille, LaTonia, Nigil, Andriana, Brittany, Vivian, and Howard Jr. of all Milwaukee, WI: one Goddaughter, Sarah Stampley.
