Obituary

Born on January 20, 1924 in Washinton, LA. to the union of Gus Prudhomme and Lizze Lawson Prudhomme. Mamie was called from labor to reward on Thursday November 28, 2013 where she crossed over into a new life, with a new beginning, where all tears and sorrows are passed away. Although, we may not understand why, and find it hard to accept, we should rejoice with her and thank our Heavenly Father for the life she lived among us. As a child, she accepted Christ as her personal savoir and was baptized at the Emma Zion Baptist Church, Washington, LA. When she married and moved to Baton Rouge she and a few other saints got together in the neighborhood of Byrd Station and going from house to house under the leadership of Rev. Brown formed Gloryland Baptist Church in 1956. There she was a faithful member of the usher board where she remained until her health failed. She recived her elementary and high school education in St. Landry Parish at Washington High School Mamie Bell was united in holy matrimony to the late Jesse Lee Alexander, Sr. on October 17, 1944 and to that union four children were born. She so dearly loved the lord and her family. She lovingly raised her children in a christian home. Mamie Bell enjoyed life to the fullest and touched many with her devotion and passion for cooking. She also loved to help others whenever there was a need. She retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System working as a dietitian at Choctaw Elementary School. Then in 1960 she and her husband Jesse opened their own store, the Alexander Auto Parts Store on Gus Young Aveune. There she took care of all the legal paper work until they both retired again in 1989. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Mamie Bell Alexander, please visit our floral store.
