Marsha Esther Rhein, beloved mother, sister and friend, passed away on September 30th,
2018, at the age of 70, after a long and brave battle with metastatic breast cancer.
She was born to Harry and Evelyn Rhein, November 11th, 1947, in New York City. Marsha
graduated from Brooklyn College with a BA in Dance before relocating with the late Gregory
Ellison in 1978 to Baton Rouge, LA, where she resided for the last 40 years.
Marsha raised her 3 children through times of financial hardship and adversity with
extraordinary love and strength. Her kindness was boundless and she was devoted to helping
others in need, volunteering with many organizations and underserved communities throughout
her life. Marsha was recognized for her work at the Advocacy Center for the Elderly and
Disabled, and she found joy working as a yoga instructor for seniors, and for people recovering
from addiction at O'Brien House.
Marsha pursued her life passions wholly, including her studies in macrobiotics and natural
health, her spirituality and faith in God, and her creative expression through dance. She will be
dearly remembered by her family and many friends for her compassion, wisdom, and infinite
love for her children.
She is survived by her children, Francisco Rhein (Kate), Jason Rhein (Kelleye), and Layla Isis
Ellison; her sister Nina Rhein; and her five grandchildren, Natalie, Jack, Gemma, Liam and
Magnolia Rhein. She often told them "The angels are watching over you." And now, at peace,
she is one of those angels, dancing free.
A Celebration of Marsha's life will be held at 2pm, Sunday October 21st at The Burden Museum
and Gardens Barton Arboretum, 5460 Essen Ln. Baton Rouge, LA. In keeping with the spirit of
Marsha's love of nature and grounding, guests are invited to bring picnic blankets. Additional
seating will be provided for those that require it. A reception will immediately follow.
Marsha's Facebook page will also remain online in her memory at www.facebook.com/marsharhein.
