Obituary

Obituary To All Things There Is A Season A Time to Be Born: Nathalie Connis Donald Holloman was the oldest daughter born to the union of Oliver Donald and Leatha "Sue" McCray. She was born in Pine Grove, Louisiana in St. Helena Parish on August 23, 1921. A time to learn: Nathalie attended the St. Helena Training School before relocating to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she lived with her beloved Aunt Ada Primus. A time to love: Nathalie married John Henry Holloman Sr. on November 7, 1953 and to their union two children, Cedric and Connis, were born. A time to work for Christ: Nathalie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. She faithfully served at the church when it was located at the corner of Fourteenth and Convention and the current church home on Glen Oaks Avenue. Over the years, Nathalie worked in many capacities at the church and at one time was the church secretary, a member of the Womens Society of Christian Service (Martha-Estelle Study Group), and the Finance Committee, just to name a few. A time for Life: Nathalie started working at an early age and worked at the Kress Department stores lunch counter, as a dental assistant and receptionist for Dr. B.V. Baranco and receptionist for Dr. Montrol Cummings until his death in 1988 when she retired. A time to die: Nathalie was called home on November 30, 2020. Nathalie loved to work in her yard and was often found planting and cultivating her many beautiful flowers. She loved being at home and spending time with family and friends where she would cook gumbo, red beans and rice and her specialty, sweet potato pie; just to name a few. She often called her home on North 20th Street, The House by the Side of the Road where her kitchen was always open to serve for Christmas dinners and family gatherings. She enjoyed walking and could often be found at the Capitol High School track or the LSU lakes getting in some exercise. She also had a passion for travel and she and her best friend, Margaret Boutte Milton, took a trip every year with their most memorable trip being to The Netherlands where they lived and fell in love with a local family. Nathalie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John of 27 years, her brother, Edwin Donald, and her sister, Rebecca Donald Tilley. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Cedric and Connis (Russell), her sister, Mildred Mitchell (Pine Grove, LA), her grandchildren, Dr. Conisha Mone Holloman (mother, Emma Tanner) and Connor Russell Tennessee; her sisters-in-law, Lillie Marion (Evanston, IL) and Lula Wilson (Baton Rouge, LA), her good friend, Margaret Boutte Milton, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
