Obituary

Patricia Yvonne Betz-Harrison, was born June 9, 1954, to the late Gladys Estell Washington and Luke C. Betz, Sr. at 301 21st Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. "Pat", as she was warmly called by friends and family, was an affectionate mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, adopted mom, and friend. On January 11, 1974, Patricia married Walter Lee Harrison, Sr. and to this union, three (3) children were born.

Pat was educated in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1972 as one of the first Black students to be integrated into the school. In 1982, Pat received her associate degree in Computer Programming Technology from Baton Rouge Vocational-Technical Institute.

After rearing her children, she returned to college and earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Management in December of 1999 from Southern University and A&M College, a commendable accomplishment. Pat invested in her children as a "stay-at-home" Mom, regularly supporting activities and volunteering often. As they grew older, she became a manager at Mary's Medical Transportation and later was a Loan Originator for mortgages. To ensure her continued upward movement during her employment, Pat obtained her Human Resources Generalist and Payroll Law certificates from LSU.

She was employed with the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for over a decade and retired in 2017.

Above all, Mother Harrison loved Jesus Christ, her family, church family, friends, and many "adopted" children. With her beautiful smile and open heart, over the years she served as a mother figure by giving encouragement and helping in tangible ways by taking in numerous live-in house guests, many of whom were her children's friends, or family. Pat had a host of "adopted" children with whom she had a close bond and treated as her own, including Douglas "Doug" Hymel and many others.

Pat was an enthusiastic traveler and traveled with family and friends nationally and internationally.

She recently was extremely happy with experiencing a wonderful "Girls Trip," joining her sister, Rita, and a few close friends. Earlier in 2023, Pat enjoyed a successful voyage to Alaska and Canada, a lifelong goal that brought her much joy. Traveling on family vacations, going out to eat with family, attending graduations and birthday gatherings, listening to audiobooks, reading, and book clubs were some of her favorite activities. She absolutely loved her TGIT Ladies Group. She was an excellent cook and obtained a bit of local fame for her creamy and delectable Red Beans, amongst other signature dishes that were delightful to the palate. Pat's favorite pastimes were "whooping your head" in a lively game of Dominoes, Spades, Po-ke-no, Left-Right-Center, Scrabble, or Guesstures. She loved dancing, watching movies, and having fun with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pat could often be found helping others and providing support or transportation to doctor's appointments, the grocery store, or wherever loved ones could use help.

She was baptized in 1997 and was a member of Jesus Ministry Tabernacle Church under the leadership of Pastor Ronnie W. Smith. Later as a member of Anointed Life Church, she served in many different areas and was ordained to the Deaconess Ministry. She was a woman with a vision for her family and confessed divine favor with God and man for her and her children. She kept her family and friends close and before the Lord in prayer.
