"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith." Pearllena White Griffin, affectionately known as "Mama Pearllena" born on July 20, 1931 to the union of the late June and Lillie Mae Taplin White of Liberty, Mississippi. She departed this life at age 85 on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana surrounded by loved ones. Sister Pearllena Griffin is survived by her four sons: Larry Griffin (Delores) of Baton Rouge, La, Frankie Griffin (Karen) of Baton Rouge, La, David Griffin of New Orleans, La, John Griffin (Ruby) of Baton Rouge, La; three daughters: Martha Penn (Alvin) of Baton Rouge, La, Daisy Griffin of Baton Rouge, La, and Veronica Gray of Prairieville, La; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Marshal and Ethel Taplin; her parents, June and Lillie White; her former husband Albert Griffin Sr.; three children: Albert Griffin (son), Thelma M. Battley (daughter), and Lillie Griffin-Jones (daughter); and one grandson Larry "Lil Larry" Griffin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Winnfield Funeral Home, 7221 Plank Rd, Baton Rouge, La. The officiating minister is Rev. Austin Trusclair, Sr. Viewing is from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Her burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery immediately after the service. The repast will be at 4:00 pm at the Charles R. Kelly Community Center, 3535 Riley St, Baton Rouge, La.
