Richard “Rip” Simmons Sr. was born on August 31, 1967, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Charles Simmons Sr. and Janet Simmons. He departed this life on March 6, 2026.
Richard was a loving father and a gentle, kind soul who brought warmth and joy to everyone around him. He was full of life and carried a spirit that uplifted those who knew him. Richard was the kind of man who never seemed to see a bad day; his positive outlook and bright personality made every moment better. He had a smile that could light up any room.
Richard enjoyed many hobbies. He loved playing dominoes, watching sports, and listening to the blues. Most of all, he loved to dance and would always tear the dance floor up whenever his favorite music played.
Richard was a member of Union Bethel AME Church, where he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at a young age and faithfully served on the usher board. He was a proud graduate of Walter L. Cohen High School.
Richard later worked at Baton Rouge Specialty Hospital as a nutritionist, where he faithfully served for more than 15 years.
Richard leaves to cherish his precious memories his children: Brianna Simmons, Richard Simmons Jr., Raheem Hall, Sharell Taylor, Neia Martin, Khiry Martin, Michalla Martin, Itianna Young, Brittany Hill, and Leonard Hill. 3 grandchildren Bryant Simmons, Zanae Noelle Hall, Aynia Martin.
He is also survived by his siblings: Eugenia Simmons,Cynthia Simmons,Jacqueline Simmons,Charlene Simmons, Christopher Simmons and Kenneth Simmons, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Marnie Simmons; his brother, Charles Simmons; his parents, Charles and Janet Simmons; his grandmother, Linner Mae Williams; and his stepson, Dylan Martin.
Though he may be gone from our sight, Richard’s love, laughter, and unforgettable spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
