Robert Lester Walker Jr. died June 24, 2017, at Baton Rouge General Hospital in the Hospice Care Unit Butterfly wing. He was surrounded by his loving daughters. He was 64 years old. Robert Lester Walker Jr. was born on November 8, 1952 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Robert and Louise Walker. He was the first of four children Carol (deceased), Anita and Gerald. Robert was a world traveler at an early age. Being the son of a Korean War Veteran, he lived in Frankfurt, Germany; Oakland, CA and Okinawa, Japan. The family settled in Detroit, Michigan, where he attended Hutchinson Middle School. He later lived in High Point, NC with his grandmother Dorethea Walker and then went to Baton Rouge to live with his grandmother Pearl Shavers. Robert graduated from Capital High in the ROTC program. He enlisted in the United States Airforce where he served until he was honorably discharged. Robert also attended Southern University and worked at Exxon Oil Company where he met Calandra Ringo. They married in 1996 and had four children, Matthew Jabree, Malik Christopher, Maya Louise and Meghan Barbara. Robert "Bobby" will always be remembered for his humor and quick wit. He loved his family and God; he always encouraged his children to do their best and keep family first. He enjoyed cooking for his family. He enjoyed all sports and was a fan of Southern University's football and basketball teams along with the New Orleans Saints. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Carol. Robert is survived by his children Darryl Bland, Matthew (wife Troi); Malik Christopher; Maya Louise; Meghan Barbara; sister Anita Davis, brother Gerald Walker (wife Marlo); Aunts Blanche Yelverton and Charlena Walker; grandchildren Noah Daniel Walker (born 6/19/2017) and Darrilyn Bland-Kyle and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert will be greatly missed by many friends and all his family. The public viewing will be at Winnfield Funeral Home 7221 Plank Rd, Baton Rouge, La June 29, 2017 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm with the funeral to follow at 1:00pm. Robert will be buried at Louisiana National Cemetery at W. Mt.
