Ruby Lee Shines Hertzock departed this life peacefully in Baton Rouge, LA on June 19, 2017 at the age of 55 years young. Ruby is survived by her two children, April Shines and Asha Shines and one grandson, Alexander Shines. She has 10 surviving siblings; John Shines Jr., Mary Lee Russell, and Bessie Williams of Chicago, IL, Mentha Shines Johnson ( Ozell) of Tynsboro, MA, Ella Shines Godsmith of Houston, TX, Jesse Carpenter Jr. of Jackson, MS, Jimmy Shines, Mitchell Carpenter ( Beatrice), Kenneth Shines ( Patricia), and Ezra James Shines (Ama) of Jackson, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents Lula Mae Kelley and John Williams Shines and stepmother Magolia Smith Shines. She graduated from Callaway High School in 1980. She granduated from Hinds Jr. College with an Associate's Degree in Architectural Design. She was married to Brian Hertzock in Baton Rouge, LA after moving from Boston, MA area in early 90s with her young daughter April Shines. They soon welcomed a second child to the family Asha Shines. Ruby began working for Jetson Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer and worked there 13 years. Later, she began working at Dixon Correctional Facitlity as a Corrections officer. Ruby believed in hard work and would sometimes go to work ill and instilled that devoted work ethic into her children as well. her children remember her as a kind, compassionate, stern and dedicated mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
