Theodore Hayes Shaffers Sr., affectionately known as Ted or “Hop Sing,” passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 69. He was born on August 30, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ted is survived by his wife, Janet Williams; his children, Breonna Shaffers and Theodore Shaffers Jr.; his sister, Patricia Shaffers; three grandchildren, Theodore Shaffers III, Vincent Shaffers, and Terry Cockerham Jr.; and two nephews, Keith Jingles and Derrick Variste. He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Shaffers; his sister, Claudia Shaffers Variste; his granddaughter, Baleigh Cockerham; and his nephew, Aaron Variste. Ted was educated at McKinley High School and devoted his career to serving others as a compassionate Respiratory Therapist. He enjoyed cooking and cherished bringing family and friends together through food and laughter. Ted will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and loving spirit. His life was a blessing, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
