Obituary

On August 14, 2018 Walter Elvin Lacey, Sr. departed this earthly life and relocated to his heavenly home. Lacey as he was called, was born on July 29, 1932 to the union of the late Randell and Annie Lacey in Lakeland, Louisiana. He was baptized in Matthews, Louisiana at an early age. He later moved to Baton Rouge where he served at Little Zion Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. Morris Jackson, Later he moved his membership to Rock Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. R. Lewis, until his death, at that time he came up under the leadership of Rev. David Cowan, where he served on the Deacons ministry and the male chorus. In August, 1994 he joined the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There he continued to serve on the Deacon Ministry and male Chorus until his death. Lacey was a retired truck driver for Younger Brothers of Baton Rouge, La for 43 years. Lacey was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great, great-grandfather. His memory will forever be cherished by his devoted wife of 41 years, Genette Lacey, his children, Anthony (Deborah) Smith, Vanessa (Jeremiah) Hawkins, Meta (Leroy) Davis, Gertrude (Ray) Triplett, Ronald (Dianne) Lacey, Rev. Elvin (Irma) Lacey, Jacqueline (Pastor Reginal) Reynolds, William (Angelia) Lacey, Carl (Tamara) Smith, all of Baton Rouge, LA; Tyrone (Juanita) Lacey of Thibodaux, LA and Rev. Donald (Shonda) Lacey of Nacogdoches, TX. One sister-in-law, Irene (Warren) Pitre; Brothers-in-law, Freddie (Gwen) Green, Sam (Gracie) Green and Carl Wilford as well as a host of grandchildren, great and great, great grandchildren and other relatives. Lacey was proceeded in death by his parents, Randell and Annie Lacey, one sister, Elizia Raby, a wonderful mother-in-law, Mrs. Earnestine Green, three loving sisters-in-law, Annette Wilford, Corrine Washington and Earnestine Torrence and a son, Ronald Smith.
