We celebrate the life of Wanda Jean Evans, a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, and a friend. Wanda Jean Evans lived a life of love and generosity. Upbeat, happy, caring, and loving, Wanda always put others before herself. Though at times the struggles of her life were immense, she never complained and always looked on the brighter, or rather blessed side of every circumstance she encountered. Wanda had a very optimistic look on life and believed that "All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." Wanda was a devoted Christian, and her faith in God was her foundation.
Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina on May 23, 1956, Wanda also spent some of her childhood in Youngstown, Ohio. She moved to Plaquemine, Louisiana to care for her ailing grandfather in the late 90s. Shortly after the passing of her grandfather, Wanda gave her life to Christ and made Baton Rouge her new home. She was a very active member at the Church at Baton Rouge, a cornerstone of her life in Baton Rouge.
Wanda completed her degree as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA),, committing her life to the care of others. Wanda worked as a CNA in hospitals, nursing homes, and personal home care; and she was also a healthcare advocate at the local health department. Wanda had a passion for helping those that could not care for themselves. In addition to caregiving, Wanda was also a very talented seamstress and outstanding cook.
Wanda will be best remembered for her contagious laugh, her love for music, her enjoyment of the company of others, and her care and passion for her children, grandchildren, family and church family.
Sister Wanda began attending Church at Baton Rouge in 2001, where she has been a faithful member. She was baptized in water on October 27, 2002, and continued her walk with the Lord. She also enjoyed listening to spiritual songs, fellowshipping with the saints, daily talks with her friends, and attending the various youth activities. Sister Wanda was loved by all and often shared positive, encouraging words no matter how she may have been feeling.
Sister Wanda loved the Lord and has qualified for the scripture "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." (Rev. 14:13)
Wanda is preceded in death by her father, Samuel H. Crockett and her mother, Dorothy L Smith and grandparents on both sides of her family.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Dione Crockett, son, Martinez Evans, granddaughter, Cierra Crockett, great grandchildren, Trent and Trinity Morris; and her sisters and brothers: Betty Cone, Coye McAllister, her twin brother Samuel D. Crockett, Donald Crockett (Cynthia), Zeniford Crockett (Sonya), Valeria Stanley, Aaron Smith, and Karen Wells (Rundy); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
