Nancy Delores Phillips departed this life on January 09, 2021 at Ochsner Medical Center. She graced this earth with her intelligence and beauty for 66 wonderful years. She was a native and resident of Baton Rouge, La. She was born to Joseph and Lillie Mae Myles Phillips at 7:37 am on July 10, 1954. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Ark Baptist Church where she served as an usher. Nancy was a proud graduate of Capitol Senior High School in 1972. She had two daughters. She always believed in playing a supportive role for her family and friends.
Nancy was an active part of the workforce for over 25 years before retiring and becoming a foster grandparent. After serving as an usher for many years at New Ark Baptist Church, she transferred her membership to New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church where she was involved in several fulfilling ministries: she started as a member of the choir, the Mission Ministry, the Vision Ministry, the Nursing Home Ministry, and the Prayer Ministry before becoming an Ordained Deaconess. Nancy continued her work by serving as a foster grandparent at New Horizon Head Start and Park Elementary as well as being a member of Council on Aging.
Nancy leaves to cherish her life and fond memories to her two beautiful daughters, Andrea Irvin-Harrison (Kevin) and Angela Spears, six amazing grandchildren Latricia Irvin-Edwards (Jeremy), Michael Irvin, Jr. (Mariah), Marcus Irvin, Morgan Spears, Matthew Spears and Madison Spears, 5 active great-grandchildren, Jailen Butler, Marley Irvin, Marcus Irvin Jr, Jaxson Irvin and Maya Irvin, two handsome nephews Eddie Phillips Jr. (Tisa) and Derrick Phillips.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lillie Phillips, grandmother Nancy Levy, brother Eddie Phillips, Sr. and nephew Kenneth Phillips.
Visitation will be held on Saturday January 16, 2021 at New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Blount Rd. Baton Rouge, La 70807 from 9:00 am to 11:00am. Funeral services will proceed at 11:00am.
