Michael Johnson was born to the late Arthur Ross and Annie Bell Johnson Ellis on February 26, 1956 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at an early age.
Michael graduated from Scotlandville High School in 1974. He joined the United States Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge as Private First Class with Special Ranking on July 11, 1982.
Michael was employed by The Mattel Facility in the city of El Segundo, California and Pacific Electric Cord in Gardenia, California. He finished school and started his own business. He was the Pastor of Freedomland Baptist Church for 25 years until his health begin to fail him. He enjoyed fishing.
He united in marriage with his wife of 32 years to Joanne Evans Johnson. He leaves to cherish his precious memories three sons; Jonathan “Buck” Grimes of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Melvin Rose and Jason Johnson of Los Angeles, California; 2 daughters Jerrilynn (L.J.) Harris and Symitress (Trendall) Collins, daughter in law Denise Holland; 3 sisters Sandra (Hans) Bruetting, Deborah (Lloyd) Isaac, Clarissa (Dan) Honore, 3 brothers Willie (Kintricia) Ellis Jr, Kevin (Trina) Ellis, and Terry Ellis. One brother in law Winston (Lillie) Evans, 5 sister in laws, Emma (George) Lafayette, Annie Mae Walker, Clementine Evans, Genelle (Lionel) Causey and Mary Jackson. He was the proud Paw Paw of 25 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, 5 God children, Deshannon, Jeremy, Ciera, Justice, and DeJohn.
He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, father Arthur Ross, 3 sons, Jeremy “Chuck” Grimes, Troy Rose and Freddie Holland.
